Ranunculus
, and the cornflower (
Centaurea cyanus
) and globe amaranth (
Gomphrena
).

Gerarde, p. 472 (1633)
; but by other writers ascribed to “a habit of country fellows to carry them in their pockets to divine their success with their sweethearts.”
